The glass lamination process: technologies and applications
Laminated glass is one of the most sought-after products in the building, automotive and furniture sectors thanks to its safety characteristics, acoustic insulation and UV protection. The process consists of joining two or more sheets using an interlayer which, in case of breakage, retains the fragments maintaining structural integrity.
Lamination with rigid interlayers: the PVB process
Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is the most widespread interlayer. It comes as a rigid film inserted between the sheets and laminated in an autoclave at 130-145°C with pressures of 12-14 bar. This method guarantees optimal transparency and high mechanical resistance, ideal for structural applications, curtain walls and the automotive sector.
Lamination with liquid interlayers: EVA technology
Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) is a thermoplastic that melts during lamination becoming liquid, guaranteeing perfect adhesion even on irregular surfaces, decorative inserts or curved glass. The process takes place in forced convection furnaces at 120-150°C, without autoclave. Reduced cycle times make this technology efficient for flexible productions and small-medium series. EVA offers excellent light transmission and resistance to atmospheric agents, making it ideal for decorative glazing and customized architectural applications.
Advantages of Bovone solutions
Bovone lines handle both technologies with modular configurations adaptable to different production volumes. From preparation to assembly, every phase is optimized for product quality, energy containment and management simplicity. Advanced control systems allow saving customized cycles, ensuring repeatability and operational flexibility. Whether it’s large formats for facades or small decorative batches, Bovone solutions respond with the reliability of Made in Italy.
